Resource Forester

Port Blakely is looking for a Resource Forester to join our team based in Tumwater, Washington. The Resource Forester will be responsible for supporting the resource department with forestry database management, inventory procedures, and silviculture responsibilities in Washington and Oregon, ensuring the value growth of the company by maintaining a reliable inventory and Forest Information System (FIS). You will work with the Forest Analyst and broader resources team to provide forest database updates, assist with implementations of new FIS technologies, tracking and auditing inventory, and assisting in other research projects and resource tasks as needed. An analytical mindset, attention to detail, and flexibility with logistics and planning is key in this role.

As part of our Resources Team, you will report to the Forestry Analyst. This role primarily works out of our office in Tumwater, Washington with possible minimal travel to Oregon. Time will be split between office and field activities.

Port Blakely manages forestlands in the Pacific Northwest of the United States and New Zealand.

What you'll do:

  • Model and encourage safe work practices
  • Be responsible for tracking database updates, importing into cruise program and exporting data to FIS
  • Have exposure to multiple facets of the resource division to build skills to manage all components of data collection, tracking, and data migration
  • Use Assisi Manager and be responsible for providing data requests to end users across the organization
  • Gain exposure to Growth and Yield modeling to update FIS
  • Facilitate the re-measurement of permanent growth plots
  • Assist with inventory cruise project auditing and status tracking
  • Assist with silviculture logistics around planting and spray projects in WA & OR
  • Assist with silviculture pct layout and auditing
  • Have exposure to cruising for acquisitions and dispositions
  • GPS data collection for harvest boundaries and surveys
  • Occasionally travel for training, meetings, and conferences in the Pacific Northwest

We'd love to hear from people with:

  • Two+ years of database management and/or forestry analytics experience
  • Experience with database management
  • Effective administrative experience to assure logistics, paperwork, and communications are effectively completed
  • Ability to work and operate independently, using sound judgement to make decisions, while juggling multiple competing tasks and demands
  • The ability to use cellular apps, MS Office 365, SQL Server Management studio, Geographic Information System (GIS), Land Resource Manager (LRM), Global Position System (GPS), Avenza, IGIS, and Relaskop

  • Salary Range: Min $61,067 | Mid $73,280 | Max $85,493
  • Other compensation includes, but is not limited to, bonuses, profit-sharing, employer 401k match, or other forms of compensation that would be offered to the hired applicant in addition to their
    established salary range or hourly pay wage scale.
