Port Blakely Tree Farms LP

Young Forest

Port Blakely's young forests range in age from 1 to 20 years old. That's really young in tree years, as some trees like the western redcedar can grow to over 1,000 years old.

Plantation is another name that we give to our young forests. A plantation is an area of trees planted by humans to replace trees that have been harvested. We cut less trees than we grow. This is called sustained yield forestry.

Port Blakely harvests less than 2 out of every 100 of its trees (2%) each year for forest products. That means over 98% of our trees are left to grow, providing habitat and forest products for the future.
