Port Blakely Tree Farms LP

Intermediate Forest

You can tell the age of a young tree by counting its whorls. Whorls are the circular growth of branches around the same point on the tree trunk. Young trees start to lose their branch whorls at the base of the tree as they begin to grow stronger and taller.

Notice the scars where the whorls have fallen off.
