Debra Somberg

Debra Somberg brings decades of leadership experience in finance, venture capital, and corporate governance. She currently serves as chair of BECU, one of the nation's largest community-based credit unions.

Debra is the founder of NewView, a hybrid organization that builds ecosystems, provides strategic frameworks, and facilitates investments to drive collaborative value across private, nonprofit, and public sectors. She has also served on the boards of the Seattle Foundation, and the Public Service Center at Stanford University.

Previously, Debra spent a decade as co-managing partner of Maveron LLC, a consumer-focused venture capital firm. She also developed the consumer investment banking practices at Montgomery Securities and Thomas Weisel Partners in San Francisco, where she co-founded the investment banking division. Earlier in her career, she worked in corporate finance at Goldman Sachs and as a consultant at McKinsey & Company.

Debra earned her bachelor's degree from Stanford University, where she was elected Phi Beta Kappa, and holds an MBA from Harvard Business School. She is a NACD Directorship-Certifiedâ„¢ director and Board Leadership Fellow.
