Scott Howell
Independent Director
R. “Scott” Howell is the Chief Executive Officer of Northern Industrial Management LLC (NII), a privately held company based in Seattle, Washington.
From its founding in 1948 until 2017, NII was a global leader in the design and manufacture of log debarking equipment and purpose-built machinery for steep-slope logging. In late 2017, the company sold its manufacturing businesses in preparation for a generational ownership transition and refocused on building a diversified commercial real estate portfolio, now the company’s primary focus.
Scott has worked in the forest products industry since high school, gaining extensive experience across both roundwood and manufactured wood product operations. His career has taken him across the United States, Southeast Asia, and South America, and he has traveled to nearly every major timber-producing region worldwide.
He holds a Bachelor of Arts from Western Washington University and a Master of Business Administration from the University of Washington. In addition to serving on the Port Blakely Board, Scott sits on several other private company boards. He is a member of the National Association of Corporate Directors and the Young Presidents’ Organization.
An advocate for wildlife habitat preservation, Scott manages personal agricultural properties that balance commercial farming and ranching with ecological considerations.
