Port Blakely’s Board of Directors today announced its plan to appoint Mike Warjone as the company’s next Chief Executive Officer (CEO), effective January 1, 2026. This planned transition reflects our legacy of family leadership and continued commitment to long-term stewardship.

Mike will succeed René Ancinas, who has served as CEO since 2010. René will continue to provide continuity and strategic direction as Board Chair.

“Port Blakely has always been guided by a long-term view rooted in stewardship, sustainability, and our commitment to people and communities,” said Warjone. “I’m excited to build on René’s leadership and work with our incredible teams to shape what’s next.”

A fourth-generation family member, Mike has served as President of Port Blakely’s US Forestry operations since 2020. He joined the company in 1997 and has built his career through a wide range of roles, including Forester, Silviculture Manager, Director of Strategy, and Vice President of Operations. Over the years, Mike has helped drive strategic growth, championed sustainable forest practices, and led Port Blakely’s entry into the voluntary carbon market.

Chair of the Nominating and Governance Committee and Independent Director, Debra Somberg reflected on the significance of the transition:

“René has made exceptional contributions that have positioned the company's operational and family governance structures for long-term success. Mike is the right person at the right time to lead Port Blakely into the future.”

René joined the Port Blakely in 2005 and became CEO in 2010. Under his leadership, Port Blakely expanded its operational and family governance structures, strengthening its position as an industry leader recognized for corporate and environmental stewardship through investments in forest research, conservation partnerships, and community education.

“This is a pivotal moment for Port Blakely,” said Ancinas. “I have complete confidence in Mike’s ability to steward the company to innovate and make a lasting impact for future generations.”

Mike is a Director on the boards of the Washington Forest Protection Association and Sustainable Northwest and Chairs the Operating Committee for the National Alliance of Forest Owners.

Gareth Waugh will become President of US Forestry on January 1, 2026. With 25 years of experience at Port Blakely, including leadership roles in both the U.S. and his native New Zealand, Gareth brings a global perspective and deep operational insight to our diversifying domestic forestry operations.

As we prepare for this exciting new chapter, we remain grounded in the values that have guided our family and our company for over 160 years: stewardship, sustainability, and community.
