Senior Manager, Communications

We are looking for someone who has all the internal and external communications basics down and is energized by digging in with teams to implement strategies and initiatives that drive understanding and enhance Port Blakely’s reputation in a values-driven, people-centered, entrepreneurial multi-national organization. You will play an essential role in supporting the company’s business goals through leading, facilitating, collaborating, and coordinating the communications function of the company, working in partnership with our senior executives and leaders throughout the organization. As part of our Seattle-based team, you will report to the Chief People Officer. Port Blakely has adopted a hybrid work environment (working from home and office) and the role will primarily office out of Seattle, Washington with some occasional days spent in our Tumwater, Washington office.

Port Blakely manages forestlands in the Pacific Northwest of the United States and New Zealand.

What you’ll do:

  • Act as main point of contact for all company communications to support the strategic priorities and business plans of the CEO, Business Unit Presidents, and key leaders.
  • Design and execute employee and family communication strategies to create greater understanding, increased engagement and provide transparency into progress on strategy and company performance.
  • Supports CEO/Board Chair with executive communications with external stakeholders as well as internal stakeholders, including letters, business updates, presentations, and Board materials.
  • Leads the execution and ongoing management of the company’s brand strategy, including Port Blakely’s leadership role in social and environmental stewardship.
  • Tracks, reports, and recommends actions to company leadership on emerging trends and issues of consequence to the company’s reputation and brand.
  • Lead the execution of communications activities, including budgeting, planning and project management and relationships with vendors, suppliers, and consultants who support these activities.
  • Champion the storytelling of our “other balance sheet” – our corporate social responsibility impacts
  • Manage our public relations strategy, serve as the primary contact for media, and manage the company’s relationships with media, as well as monitoring media coverage.

We’d love to hear from people with:

  • 5+ years of progressive leadership experience in communications, public relations, and/or journalism including demonstrated competence in executing internal and external communications and brand positioning, crisis communication, content creation, and team
    collaboration
  • Exceptional writing, editing and messaging and oral communication skills, including formal presentations and business communication
  • Ability to create clear and consistent messages that address communications needs and priorities of internal and external stakeholders
  • Proven success in maintaining communication policies, plans, and tracking key issues that may impact the company’s reputation
  • Ability to diagnose problems using strategic thinking skills and identify and drive appropriate solutions
  • Experience utilizing traditional and new media effectively in communications programs is required
  • Experience managing vendor relationships
  • High proficiency in Microsoft Office Suite with elevated emphasis on Outlook, Teams, Word, SharePoint, and PowerPoint
  • Interest in knowing the business, working collaboratively and being willing to pitch in as needed
  • Experience working in small/mid-size, and multi-national organizations preferred
  • Experience in forestry, natural resources and/or commodity industries beneficial
  • Ability to handle confidential information discreetly
  • Proven success with interacting with individuals at all levels throughout the company to help facilitate the free exchange of ideas and information
  • Ability to be flexible, action-oriented, demonstrate comfort with ambiguity, accept frequent change, highly organized with strong orientation to detail, follow-through, and high quality of work

Compensation:

  • Salary Range: Min $111,283 | Mid $137,991 | Max $164,699
  • Other compensation includes bonuses, profit-sharing, employer 401k match, or other forms of compensation offered to the hired applicant in addition to their established salary range or hourly pay wage scale.
